Common Ford problems we have experienced
The 5.4L Triton three-valve in 2004–2008 F-150s is famous for two things: spark plugs that break off in the head during removal, and cam phasers that rattle like a diesel at idle. Both are fixable. The plug job takes patience and the right extractor, not a torch and a prayer.
Early 3.5L EcoBoost trucks (roughly 2011–2016) stretch timing chains, and the 2017–2020 versions picked up their own cold-start cam phaser knock. If your EcoBoost sounds rough for two seconds on startup, don't ignore it — it gets more expensive the longer it runs that way.
Focus and Fiesta owners with the 2011–2016 PowerShift dual-clutch know the shudder well. Sometimes it's clutches, sometimes the TCM. We'll diagnose it honestly and tell you whether the fix is worth it on a higher-mileage car.
Escapes and Fusions with the 1.6L and early 2.0L EcoBoost run into coolant intrusion and overheating issues. A sweet smell from the vents or a slowly dropping reservoir deserves a look before it becomes a cylinder head problem.
