Cummins Diesel Repair in Weyers Cave, VA

The Cummins B-series is an industrial engine that happens to live in a pickup, and that's exactly why the trucks around it wear out first. Half a million miles from the block is realistic. The lift pump, the front end, the exhaust manifold bolts, and the emissions hardware will all demand attention long before the engine does. We keep Cummins-powered Rams working across the valley. Farm trucks, haulers, and daily drivers alike.

Common Cummins problems we see in the Valley

Old 12-valves (1994–1998) carry the most famous flaws in American diesel history: the killer dowel pin. A small steel dowel in the front gear housing can work loose, drop into the timing gears, and destroy the front of an otherwise immortal engine. The fix is a tab kit and a few hours of labor. If your 12-valve hasn't had the KDP addressed, or you don't know, that's the first job on the. Full stop. And we would be happy to do it for you.

The 24-valve trucks (1998.5–2002) live and die by fuel supply. The VP44 injection pump fails when the lift pump ahead of it weakens and stops feeding it enough fuel for cooling and lubrication. A dead lift pump kills a very expensive injection pump; monitoring fuel pressure is cheap by comparison.

Across nearly every generation, exhaust manifold bolts stretch and snap from heat cycling, and the manifolds themselves warp. That ticking under load is usually an exhaust leak, not the engine. On the 6.7L (2007.5-up), the emissions system causes the issue: EGR coolers clog, DPFs plug up on trucks that idle too much, and turbo actuators fail. The 6.7 also has the grid heater bolt concern, where a bolt on the intake heater can erode, break, and get swallowed by cylinder six. And on any solid-axle Ram HD, worn track bars and ball joints eventually deliver the front-end shimmy every owner dreads, and because of that we rebuild these front ends regularly.
