Tire Sales & Service in Weyers Cave, VA
Your tires are four pieces of rubber and are the only part of the car that touches the road. Every panic stop on I-81, every wet curve on a Valley back rod, every deer that jumps a fence at dusk; how - how that ends depends on those four pieces of rubber. So we take tires seriously at New Town Automotive & Tire, and we sell them the way we'd want to buy them: matched to how you actually drive, not to whatever's overstocked in the back
Buying tires without getting talked into the wrong ones
Tell us what the vehicle does. A commuter running to Harrisonburg every day wants a quiet touring tire with long tread life. A farm truck that spends half its life on gravel needs a stiffer sidewall and a tread that sheds mud. A minivan hauling kids needs wet braking performance above everything else. Those are three different tires, and the most expensive one isn't automatically the right one for any of them.

We'll price you out a couple of options and explain the real difference between them in tread life, noise, and wet grip. What we won't do is put a tire on your vehicle that's wrong for it just because it's cheap. Mismatched or worn-out tires also make honest suspension diagnosis nearly impossible, which is one reason our steering and suspension work often starts with a close look at your tires.
Mounting and balancing, done carefully
Mounting a tire isn't complicated, but doing it without scratching an alloy wheel or pinching a bead takes care and the right touch. We mount, seat, and inflate to the placard pressure on the door jamb to ensure the tire meets your vehicle's specifications.

Balancing matters more than most people think. A wheel that's out of balance by even a small amount will buzz the steering wheel at highway speed, and over months it hammers away at wheel bearings and suspension bushings. If you feel a vibration that starts around 55 or 60mph, balance is the first suspect. If a rebalance doesn't cure it, the problem might be a bent wheel, a broken belt inside the tire, or something in the driveline, and we'll chase it down rather than shrug.
Rotations are free here, and you should actually get them
Front tires wear faster on most vehicles. They steer, they carry the engine's weight, and on front-wheel-drive cars they put the power down too. Rotating every 5,000 miles or so evens that out and can add thousands of miles to a set's life. On all-wheel-drive vehicles it's not optional. Many AWD systems, especially Subarus, can be damaged by tires with mismatched tread depths, and the fix for one ruined tire can be a whole new set.

We do free rotations for our tire customers who purchase a full set. No catch. It gets your vehicle in the air at least twice a year where we can spot a nail, a leaking shock, or a brake pad down to the backing plate before it becomes a tow. Pair it with an oil change and you're in and out in one visit.
Flat repair the right way. Patch from the inside, or not at all
A plug shoved in from the outside is a parking-lot fix, not a repair. The proper method is to dismount the tire, inspect it inside for hidden damage, and install a combination plug-patch from the inside that seals the hole and fills the puncture channel. That's the industry-standard repair, and it's the only kind we'll stand behind.

We'll also tell you honestly when a tire can't be saved. Punctures in the sidewall or shoulder aren't repairable, period. The tire flexes there and no patch will hold safely. Same for a tire that's been driven flat and cooked its inner liner. Nobody likes hearing that, but a blowout at 70mph with a trailer behind you is worse, and we see plenty of trailers through our trailer repair service that got dragged in on shredded rubber.
TPMS: Low tire pressure or bad sensor
Tire pressure monitoring sensors live inside the wheel and run on sealed batteries that last roughly five to ten years. When one dies, the light stays on and the system goes blind. We diagnose which sensor failed, replace it, and relearn the system to the vehicle so the dash reads correctly again.

Worth saying: A solid TPMS light usually means low pressure, and if you are driving by we will inflate your tires as a courtesy. You may notice cold snaps trigger it every fall, this is because pressure drops about one PSI for every ten degrees. A flashing light means a system fault. Either way, don't just ignore it for a year. Underinflation is the number one killer of otherwise healthy tires, and it costs you fuel every single mile.

Common Questions
How do I know when my tires are worn out?
The legal minimum is 2/32" of tread, but wet traction falls off badly before that. We recommend planning replacement around 4/32". An easy trick to see if it's time to change your tires is to stick a quarter in the groove, Washington's head down: if you can see the top of his head, start shopping. Also look for cracked sidewalls on older tires even with good trad. Rubber ages out at around six to ten years regardless of miles.
Can you repair a nail in my tire?
Usually yes, if the puncture is in the tread area and smaller than about a quarter inch, an internal plug-patch fixes it properly. Sidewall and shoulder punctures can't be repaired safely. Bring it in, or air it up and drive it in gently if it's holding some pressure.
Do I need to replace all four tires at once?
On a front- or rear-wheel-drive vehicle, replacing in pairs is fine. New tires go on the rear. On many all-wheel-drive vehicles, tread depths need to match closely across all four, so one destroyed tire can mean replacing the set. We'll measure your remaining tread and tell you which situation you're in.
Why is my steering wheel shaking at highway speed?
Most likely it's the wheel balance, and a rebalance fixes it. If not, we look at bent wheels, tire defects, worn tie rod ends, or brake rotor issues if it shakes mostly when stopping which we can resolve with our brake services.
Do you rotate tires for free?
For our tire customers that have purchased a full set from us, yes. It's the easiest way to keep a set wearing evenly, and it lets us catch problems early. Ask us to set you up on a rotation schedule and we'll remind you when it's due.
